Lewes's bonfire
On
November 5th in Lewes Sussex, there's a tradional festivity:
Lewes 's bonfire. It is to remember the time when the King's soldiers discovered the plot against the houses of parliament's members, the king included.
On that night people dress in historic costumes, the Guy, Guy Fawkes's effigy, is burned on top of a hill on an enormous bonfire. There are also fireworks to end the festivity.
Here is the famous nursery rhyme on November 5th:
"Please to remember
The fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot;
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot."
